History
The Oromo Canadian Community Association (OCCA) is a community based association founded in September 1988 by Canadian of Oromo Origin and new Oromo immigrants. The purpose is to provide a wide range of services mainly to the expanding population of Ontario Canadians of Oromo descent. OCCA was registered as a non-profit organization on December 28, 1989.
Aims and Objectives
- To facilitate the reception and settlement of Oromo immigrants in Metro Toronto and foster their full participation in all sectors of Canadian society.
- To facilitate access to education and employment so that they may utilize their acquired skills and experience in the most rewarding manner.
- To help retain and develop the Oromo cultural heritage and share with the other Canadians within the framework of multiculturalism and promote mutual understanding.
- To respond to concerns and represent to plights of Oromo refugee immigrants who are not serviced by any other agency, and seek assistance from different available sources.
